20ft Double Door Shipping Container (New)

A 20ft double door container, also called a tunnel container, is a 20-foot shipping container with full-size cargo doors at both ends instead of one. A new (one-trip) unit starts at $4,100 this week, before delivery and sales tax, $1,350 more than a standard new 20ft.

What the second set of doors is for

  • Get to the back without unloading: open whichever end is closer to what you need, so nothing stays buried at the far end.
  • Two rooms in one box: divide it in the middle and each half gets its own doors; a partition wall is a modification sellers can quote.
  • Long loads: pipe, lumber or poles slide in one end and out the other.
  • Placement: either end can face the driveway, but leave room at both ends for the doors to swing open.

Each end opens about 7′8″ × 7′6″ (2.34 × 2.28 m), the same as the single door end of a standard 20ft, so the $1,350 premium buys a second opening, not a bigger one. Need access along the long side instead? A 20ft open side container opens the full side and starts at $6,750. For more length, see the 40ft high cube double door.

Like every new container listed here, it’s a one-trip unit: it crossed the ocean once with cargo, then was sold. What one-trip means.

Frequently asked questions

Can a 20ft container have doors at both ends?

Most don’t: a standard container has cargo doors at one end only. A double door, or tunnel, container has a full set at each end, and an open side container has doors along one long side.

What is the size of a 20ft double door container?

Outside, it matches a standard 20ft: 19′10½″ × 8′ × 8′6″ (6.06 × 2.44 × 2.59 m), and each end opens about 7′8″ × 7′6″ (2.34 × 2.28 m). Inside size varies by manufacturer; one large seller lists this model at 4,920 lb (2,230 kg) empty; ask each seller for both on the box it offers. 20ft container dimensions.

How much does a 20ft double door container cost?

This week a new one starts at $4,100, before delivery and sales tax. Across the 38 listings we recorded, prices ran from $3,299 to $5,699 depending on the depot, and about half were at or below $4,100. A used double door has no weekly price: ask for one, and before you accept it, open both ends and check that each pair of doors swings freely and seals when shut.

Is a tunnel container the same as a double door container?

Yes. Both names mean a container with cargo doors at each end. Don’t confuse it with an open side container, which opens along one long side.
