Delivery, Returns & Guarantees
What LandedBox does
- Free for you. Sending a request and receiving quotes costs nothing.
- Up to 5 sellers. We send your request to no more than 5 sellers in your region, chosen for the container you need, after checking their business licensing and insurance.
- No obligation. You compare the quotes and accept one, or none.
- Not the seller. The sale, the delivery and the payment are between you and the seller you choose; LandedBox doesn’t take your payment.
What each quote should state
Read these before you accept a quote, and ask the seller if one is missing:
- The delivered price, split into the container, delivery and sales tax for your address.
- The delivery date or window, the truck (usually a tilt-bed) and the space it needs on your site: delivery checklist. Going by the sellers whose prices we track, standard containers usually arrive 3–7 business days after you accept a quote; built or modified units take longer.
- The grade and what the seller promises for it.
- What you can refuse at delivery, and who pays the trip back to the depot if you do.
- The guarantee: what it covers, for how long and how to make a claim. Appliances such as an A/C or a reefer’s new refrigeration unit also carry their manufacturer’s warranty.
- Payment: how much, when (before or after delivery) and how. The Better Business Bureau advises caution with a seller that wants full payment before delivery, and the FTC warns against one that insists on gift cards, a money transfer company, a payment app or crypto.
- Cancellation: until when it’s free. For a modified container or an office, ask what happens once the shop work has started.
- A missed delivery: what you pay if the site isn’t ready or no one is there, and what the seller offers if it misses the date.
- Accessories bought on their own: whether and how they can be returned.
At delivery
Check the container before you sign for it: doors that open, close and seal, no daylight through the walls or roof from inside, a sound floor, and the grade, layout and options in your quote. Our delivery-day checklist walks through it. Note anything wrong on the delivery receipt, before you sign it.
Doors that don’t line up are often a sign that the container isn’t level rather than a defect: a container set out of level twists its frame and its doors bind, so level it before you report the doors.
Grades
Sellers describe used containers by grade, and no industry-wide standard defines them, so the grade in your quote is the seller’s promise. Cargo worthy usually means structurally sound, wind and watertight and fit to pass a CSC safety exam. Wind and watertight: no holes, and doors that close and seal. New (one-trip): built new and shipped once. Container grades explained.
If something goes wrong
Contact the seller named in your quote, as its terms set out: give the container number painted on its doors and send photos of the problem. You can also tell us at [email protected]: we take your feedback into account when we choose which sellers receive future requests.
Rentals
A rented container is covered by the seller’s rental agreement, sent with its quote: the deposit, the term, delivery and pickup, insurance and what happens if the container stops being wind and watertight during the rental. Container rental.
