Heavy-Duty Shipping Container Door Lock
A heavy-duty container door lock clamps the two center locking bars of the cargo doors together, so the doors can’t be swung open while it’s locked on. There’s nothing to drill or bolt on, and it comes as a combination, keyed or keyed-alike lock, starting at $200 this week, before delivery. Bought with your container, it arrives on the same truck, so you can lock the doors the day it’s delivered.
Illustrative image Combination, keyed or keyed alike?
- Combination: no keys to lose; good when several people need access.
- Keyed: each lock has its own key.
- Keyed alike: if you have more than one container, one key opens all of them.
Before you order, measure the gap between the two inside locking bars where the doors meet. For the door handle, pair it with a shipping container lock box and your own padlock.

Frequently asked questions
How do I lock up a shipping container?
Use two layers. Put a padlock through the door handle and cover it with a lock box, so bolt cutters can’t grip the shackle. Then clamp the two center locking bars together with a door lock like this one, so cutting the padlock alone won’t open the doors.
Will it fit my container?
Yes, if its inside locking bars are 9¾″–16″ apart; for 17″–23″, ask us about an extension kit.
What are container locks called?
The lock on the inside locking bars is usually called a cargo door lock or container bar lock. The steel box that covers a padlock on the door is a lock box.
Do I need to drill the doors?
No. It clamps around the locking bars, so there’s nothing to drill or bolt on.
